Wisdom teeth?

when you get your wisdom teeth pulled out, do the dentists numb your mouth or do they pull it out when your asleep?

Wisdom teeth?
it depends like if you go to a dentist then more than likely they%26#039;re are only going to numb you alot, but if you go to an oral surgeon then they usually give you a choice if you want to be awake or asleep....
Reply:They numb your mouth and give you anesthesia.
Reply:Oh god. i had both of my wisdom teeth pulled out and it hurt like mother after the numbing stuff wore out. I suggest mentally preparation at least 3 hours in advance. good luck.
Reply:I HAD 2 OF MINE OUT AND THE ANESTHESIA DIDN%26#039;T LAST I FELT THE WHOLE THING THE SNAP OF THE ROOT WAS THE WORST THING I HAVE EVER HEARD.

AND YES IT HURT LIKE HELL.
Reply:i just had 2 out today and they numb you up... and pretty well i must say... just remember to take the meds before the numbing medication wears off cause then you will tart to feel the pain..

Wisdom Teeth??

Yesterday 1/8/2008 I had my stiches from my wisdom teeth surgery removed and today 1/9/2008 without thinking I drank pop from a straw. Was it to early to drink from a straw????

Wisdom Teeth??
i think you will be ok
Reply:They do recommend not doing that right after surgery. If it didn%26#039;t start bleeding, I wouldn%26#039;t worry about it.
Reply:I am assuming it was the week before this you had your wisdom teeth pulled, right? You should be fine now to drink from a straw. Generally, they want you to wait 24-48 hours, so you should be fine.

Wisdom teeth?

Ok...This is a big thing...last week I had a tooth extracted...tomorrow I%26#039;m having another one extracted. Of course I%26#039;m nervous, but I also found out I%26#039;ve got two wisdom teeth coming in, and no space for them. So, if the dentist can%26#039;t get them out, will I be referred to an Oral Surgeon, and if so, what will happen then? Thanks!

Oh, one more thing. With the most recent extraction, the dentist didn%26#039;t give me sutures, so I%26#039;ve got this big ole space in my gums...and food get stuck there. It%26#039;s really annoying Do you think that if I asked, he%26#039;d give me sutures this time? I hate that feeling!

Wisdom teeth?
The space will close with time, just keep it clean and infection won%26#039;t set in. Your dentist will look at it again when you go back just to make sure it%26#039;s healing properly.

If he cannot extract the wisdom teeth himself then yes you will be referred to an oral surgeon and either you%26#039;ll be awake, numb but awake, or put to sleep, depends on the oral surgeon as well as your fears which you can request to be put to sleep.

I think I am just starting to get my wisdom teeth in. I can%26#039;t really tell for sure, but I feel that my teeth are more extended than they used to be and I am constantly biting my inside cheek. We don%26#039;t have dental insurance so I%26#039;d like to be able to be sure before I have to go to a dentist. If there%26#039;s a way to tell, please let me know.

Also, it seems that this is only for the left side of my mouth. Is that likely to happen? Would it be something else?

Thank you.

Wisdom Teeth?
If there is enough room for your teeth, you won%26#039;t even necessarily have to do anything. You are allowed to have wisdom teeth!

You could keep biting your cheek because it got swollen by the first random accident - try and suck on some ice and be extra careful for a few days.

You can get free dental care often at dental schools.

Good luck, I hope it%26#039;s nothing :)
Reply:It is possible for only one side to come in. Contact a Dental School they will do it for free
Reply:The best way to know is to get a panoramic x-ray. It will show all your wisdom teeth, unfortunately they do cost money. It is common for one side to be a problem. If it is something else, the x-ray will show it.
Reply:You really need an ex-ray, or several of them of your mouth to really tell what is going on with wisdom teeth that have not come in yet. The reason they often pull them is because they get, %26quot;impacted,%26quot; meaning that they are caught on the tooth in front of them and they can%26#039;t come in. I had all four pulled at one time about thirty-five years ago. It is not that big a deal, when it is all over. If your teeth are already close together they can easilly become impacted, but if they come in with no problem, let them stay. When I was young I had a lot of dental work done and I wish I had not had about half of it done because when I got older my teeth had a lot of weak spots and several of them have crumbled to stubs. If you need dental work done, get it done, but do not let some dentist just drill and fill so he can pay his kids college tuition or whatever. I think that a lot of dentists find problems where there really is not a problem. If you go to the dentist every six months from age ten until twenty and the dentist drills two holes in your teeth each time, that is forty holes in your teeth and even though they are filled the integrity of the tooth is compromised and you will have to have that spot worked on again about every ten to twenty years. Sorry about going on so long but I am an avid %26quot;anti-dentite%26quot; because I feel that dentists in the sixties and seventies set me up for tooth problems later in life without warning me at all. They will not tell you but fillings are not permenant, they do need to be replaced every so many years.
Reply:Wisdom teeth usually appear between the ages of 16 and 24.More remedies and information regarding your wisdom teeth at http://useinfo-dentalcare.blogspot.com/
Reply:May that%26#039;s your wisdom teeth coming in and you might need to go the denist from some pain relief medicaiton. I don%26#039;t think it something else. Just take your time when chewing food.
Reply:There is a company that offers dental benefits for about $20.00 a month for your whole household. You would have to go to the website below and see if they have a provider in your area. If you were to join you could set an appointment for a consultation and get some estimation of the cost. I went to long without getting my wisdoms out and ended up with an infection! OUCH!

Wisdom Teeth?

I am 14, and my dentist says that my wisdom teeth are coming in. I can feel them, and one (on the bottom) seems to be coming in sort of under the other tooth and tilting it up. It doesn%26#039;t hurt right now. Do you think I am going to have to get it surgically removed?

Wisdom Teeth?
Sounds like it.. it%26#039;s not good for your mouth to get crowded.. but don%26#039;t sweat it..I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth and it didn%26#039;t hurt a bit.. I had them surgically removed in the afternoon, and was out that evening to a restaurant. Not everyone has a bad experience.. just take their advice. Ask him about dry socket, and heed the advice.. it can be very nasty. Important.. it will be almost too irrisistable, but don%26#039;t stick your tongue in the hole where the tooth was removed.. you can dislodge the blood clot, and thats when you get dry socket, and it is extremely painful..My brother didn%26#039;t listen and he suffered majorly.
Reply:Yes...it will probably have to come out. I had to go through it too. I hated it. I recommend having the doctor put you under while they do it.
Reply:It depends. Sometimes they don%26#039;t hurt, but start moving the other teeth aside anyway. Becasue of the way yours is coming in, most likely yes. It%26#039;s not terrible having your wisdom teeth removed, and your dentist knows how to do it the most comfortable way he/she can.
Reply:almost everyone needs their wisdom teeth taken out- don%26#039;t worry about it....

Wisdom teeth?

im 18 male, my 4 wisdom teeth were fully erupted and pulled on july 20th (40 days ago) there are still 4 %26quot;gaps%26quot; or %26quot;holes%26quot; were the teeth used to be, just wanted to ask if there is still some thing i should avoid, example : certain type of foods or wut not or can i eat the chips and all of that again.

Wisdom teeth?
No chips or nuts nothing small cuz it could get in the gaps then you will have bad breath. Once they heal you could eat anything again. I had the same problem at your again.
Reply:You should be fine. There isnt any space for food to get stuck in therefore no infections. 40 days should be plenlty to start eating all foods again.
Reply:You should be fine! The doctor actually sewed mine shut after he pulled my wisdom teeth, so I didn%26#039;t have to worry about it.
Reply:Well I just recently went to get mine pulled and I was told that when food does get in there it will all just break itself down. And Even when I first got them pull when I was still numb I was already eating pizza and my teeth are just fine
Reply:Consult your oral surgeon, but it%26#039;s best to rinse your mouth after eating to avoid infection. He probably sewed up the gums well, and may even have you on antibiotics, but you want to make sure that nothing nasty gets into the open wound and finds a home there.
Reply:After a week or so, you should start to eat regular food.
Reply:your doctor should have given you a list and had a check up, once you are released they usually tell you if you think you can eat it then do but if it hurts stop. just be careful and please make sure that you brush after everything you eat. and if your doctor gave you a needle looking think that would be used to rinse the holes continue to use it. always make sure you rinse your mouth because that is how a simple pulling can turn into a cavity and mouth decay
Reply:one thing you should know is that it takes time for things to go back to normal. You may continue to have %26quot;holes for some time, but don%26#039;t worry, thy should fill back in. In the mean time, don%26#039;y eat popcorn, chips, nuts or hard candy. these things can log in the spaces and become homes for bacteria wich can infect your gums and teeth. Keep brushing regulary, and try to only lightly brush the %26quot;holes%26quot; and rinse with listerine or some generic for of it. This will help with bacteria, and it antiseptic.

hope this info helps. I recently made a appointment to have mine out ;%26gt;
Reply:Always have your wisdom teeth removed by a specialist oral %26amp; Maxillofacial surgeon. Wisdom Teeth?

So my wisdom teeth first starting coming in when I was almost 22, I am now 23 and they%26#039;re less then half way threw cutting threw the gums. Actually I only have them on the left side. The gums will swell like they did the when the tooth first started to cut them the gums but then nothing more happens. Is this normal? Am I going to have them removed?

Wisdom Teeth?
Most dentists think it is best to remove them. You should see a dentist about this. You are suffering more from them now than if you would if you just had them removed. Most people don%26#039;t have this many issues with them coming in.
Reply:going to have tho get your wisdom teeth removed you really don%26#039;t need them.
Reply:it is very common to have them removed..since we really do not need those teeth...i am 22 myself and mine are still comin in..but unfortunately are coming in crooked..and pushed out one of my fillings in the back...now i have a huge whole which exposed my root...and believe me that kills...but just in case, because wisdom teeth do seem to cause alot of problems with other teeth, i would consider gettin them removed so no future problems proceed....
Reply:They%26#039;ll probably have to remove them, I%26#039;m 16, got 2 of them in and had them both removed because my gum line wasn%26#039;t long enough to keep them and it was ridiculously painful.

Wisdom teeth??!?

i was told that in a few weeks i have to get all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled out. not a problem until they told me that they will not put me to sleep only numb me up... that would be ok if all 4 of my teeth would be out. only 1 is out. is it ok that they do this??? please help me because i am really concerned!

Wisdom teeth??!?
The dentists in the navy are wonderful, but they are dentists, not oral surgeons. Dentists can%26#039;t put you to sleep because they usually don%26#039;t have the anesthesia training or license to do so. They also don%26#039;t spend as much of their education learning the skills to extract teeth, their job is to save them.

If you%26#039;re not in pain right now, I would recommend waiting until you return to the US before undergoing this procedure.
Reply:I had all four wisdom teeth pulled when I was asleep because they were growing sideways into my other teeth. It is important to get the wisdom teeth pulled if they are growing into other teeth. They cause more problems than they are worth.
Reply:It%26#039;s fine. I had it done.

I had 3 wisdom teeth pulled and one was impacted. All under local anesthetic. I didn%26#039;t feel a thing.
Reply:do you mean they are only going to do one at a time? WHILE YOUR AWAKE!!!!!!!!!. you can go to a different doctor and get a second opinion to see if they can do all four under sedation. I just had 2 pulled out at once maybe they can do that.
Reply:Well there is a few diffrent ways they can do it( i work in a detist office) I got put out when they did mine cause they were impacted but if all your wisdom teeth are in there properly with no crowding they can take them out by numbing you. just like a regular tooth. Also the size of them if they arent very big thats another reason for numbing. Some people can carry them their whole life and never get them removed they have a big enough mouth. But talk to them they can give you the reason they arent putting you to sleep. But those are some reasons i know of about the two differences. I hoped this helped alittle. GOOD LUCK

Wisdom Teeth?

My wisdom teeth started growing in June and now I%26#039;m up to my third one. My problem is, none of them have come out fully, and more than half of it is covered by my gum. I can feel the tooth far below, but it doesn%26#039;t seem that it%26#039;s going to come out anytime soon?

Should this cause any concern?

Wisdom Teeth?
If you have room for them to grow in fully then they should not cause a problem but if they stay half under, they can create a food trap which can cause bad breath and is easily infected. Talk to your dentist about it.
Reply:Yes you should be concerned. It sounds like you are going to have to have them cut out. Believe me that is no fun. You are awake for the whole process.
Reply:I wouldn%26#039;t be too concerned, although you should tell your dentist about it.. If you have to have them out, it%26#039;s not that terrible, I had mine out before they came in... I had 5 wisdom teeth (yes I had 5 instead of 4), another extra tooth, and a sisk all removed at the same time, and it wasn%26#039;t fun, but it wasn%26#039;t that bad either...
Reply:My wisdom teeth hadn%26#039;t even poked through the gums yet when I had them taken out. I was put under with anesthesia and don%26#039;t remember a thing. Talk to your dentist. If he thinks your wisdom teeth will cause problems when they come through then he may advise you to have them taken out. But don%26#039;t worry, it was a piece of cake. I was back to eating normally in about a week. Good luck.
Reply:It%26#039;s really not a big deal, seriously. Also, more than likely the surgeon will want to put you out, because they just don%26#039;t like to deal with the reactions after hearing noises all you feel is pressure. You have options, getting put out or not.
Reply:Better to get them out early before there roots get deep.

I had it done with no problems and they knocked me out for it. There was just a little tenderness and my gums were a little swollen for about a week.

Get it done its worth it!
Reply:I have two wisdom teeth (half grown) for about 3-4 years now....its no big deal-- my dentist says they are not causing a space problem so far but if they come out completely, they might need to be pulled out.
Reply:Better get them out soon

my husband had 2 sets of wisdom teeth

Wisdom teeth?

I was wondering thinking about wisdom teeth. I know they dont grow in until you are around 18 years old. And most people get them pulled because there isnt enough room in their mouth. What makes them have the urge to get them pulled? Do the teeth get infected? Do they just hurt because they are too big? And when did you get yours pulled? I am very curious lol.

Wisdom teeth?
Most people get them pulled because they have too, not because they want to. My mom got them pulled at 35 or 36 or something and she thought it hurt really bad!!
Reply:Usually 18 years old, and they get pulled because they can cause your teeth to protude and your jaws to hurt.
Reply:they are difficult to keep clean and rot, plus they croud other teeth and disturb that pretty smile
Reply:The main reason, I believe, is pain. They hurt like a mofo, from what I hear.
Reply:I got mine taken out at 16 years old. I had 4 wisdom teeth, but only 2 had surfaced. All I remember, they hurt so bad. The best part was waking up from surgery. Its a wonderful experience. Good luck! =)
Reply:you get ehm pulled because if they grow in, and there isn%26#039;t ebough room for them, then they%26#039;ll push alll of your other teeth around to make room. So for most people, after paying hundreds of dollars to get their teeth straightened, they dont want they%26#039;re wisdom teeth messing that up. It also hurts whne the grow in.

I got mine pulled when i was 14.
Reply:I am 19 and I have had 2 wisdom teeth come in. My bottom ones. I got one cut out because it was coming in completely sideways...as in that the top was sideways, growing into my other tooth. I ended up getting those 2 teeth cut out because the wisdom tooth basically broke the tooth in front of it. It hurt so bad I was glad to have surgery to get them taken out!

I still have one bottom wisdom tooth. It is kinda weird looking and seems very large for a tooth. I%26#039;m not worried about getting it out anytime soon. It%26#039;s fine and doesn%26#039;t bother me much.

My top ones probably dont have any room to come in. Some people don%26#039;t get their top ones and some peple dont even get their wisdom teeth at all

Hope I helped!
Reply:I had mine removed around age 16. They don%26#039;t always need to come out but sometimes, because of crowding, the need to be removed. The cool thing is that you can have it done at an oral surgeon%26#039;s office in about 30 minutes to 1 hour. You sleep through and don%26#039;t notice a thing. You%26#039;ll go home with some good pain meds that will help you sleep and recover. 2-3 days and you%26#039;ll be good as new.
Reply:if you dont get them pulled they decay faster and can eventually give you some major pain!!! and bad breath on the way... Im 25 and have only had 1 pulled and regret putting it off... get them pulled when you can theyre a pain! but hey some people make it through life with them and have no problems, or so Ive heard
Reply:try this at home you know those big fat pencils you used in grade school put it behind the last molar top and bottom and try to bite down....hurts like hell dont it thats why they have them removed (no room)
Reply:my brother got his wisdom teeth removed at 17.

which was like 3 weeks ago ^.^

and they hurt because whn you pull it out. you have a whole in you mouth.

he cried and the hospital people came. lol.

the teeth don%26#039;t get infected.

they get pulled out because it can change the way you talk.

if you don%26#039;t take em out.

you%26#039;ll sound funny or somehting like that.

but some people even get it when they%26#039;re 13.
Reply:Like you said, when they start to come in most of the time there%26#039;s not enough room for them. They start to push against the teeth in front of them and cause pain and swelling. If left be they will damage your other teeth or cause an infection.
Reply:They start hurting.......Or at least mine did. And I got mine taken out when I was 18. And all at once. And I was wide awake.........no sleeping during that time...........LOL
Reply:I had my wisdom teeth pulled because when the tooth was JUST coming in, the gum around the tooth was swollen. It rips through the gum, and hurt so bad. I was knocked out when they took my wisdom teeth out. I had them done when I was 21. My mom had hers taken out when she was in her 40%26#039;s.
Reply:I had 3 of mine pulled (1 by its self and 2 more later) they hurt, and they became impacted (whatever that means) I can tell you when I had the first one taken out the dentist just did it in his office with novacain, it hurt SO bad, I got dry socket and a bad infection, I was sick for OVER a week, the second two I had done at the same time at a real oral surgen they knocked me out, their were no problems and I felt better fast, I had it done in the morning I was eating soft foods that night, solid foods within a few days, no infection, very little pain...
Reply:Well I don%26#039;t think people just CHOOSE to have them out, my dentist just told me that there wouldn%26#039;t be enough room for them to grow in. This was after I had braces so I didn%26#039;t want to mess up my teeth that I had just straightened. As far as getting infected, if you have a good oral surgeon you will not have a problem. I know that you are not supposed to smoke right after you get them pulled because you can get something called %26quot;dry sockets%26quot;, which is where the gum heals over a pocket of air where you tooth used to be. I got mine pulled when I was 18 like you said and I was MISERABLE. I had two in the top and two in the bottom of my mouth. It was a painful recovery but you usually get some good meds to make you numb and cheer you up a bit!

(BTW, I smoked right after i had my teeth pulled and had no problems, i just smoked less often)
Reply:Wisdom teeth come up at different ages for everyone, with mine it was when I was 23. Some people are blessed with the option of leaving them in because they have enough room in their mouth to do so. Sometimes they have little room and end up pushing all of your other teeth forward and this can aesthetically change your teeth for the worst.

Sometimes they can%26#039;t break through the surface and become impacted and slowly decay from underneath your gums leading to infection, cysts and possible sickness (in the past before dental procedures many people would actually die as a result of problematic wisdom teeth).

Sometimes they can come through sideways, disrupting the way you eat and possibly creating pain.

So there are many reasons, but some people are blessed are require no treatment. Personally I recommend removing them regardless if there are issues or not as they are very hard to keep clean.
Reply:Wisdom teeth grow in at different times for everyone, as early as 15 or so, however, they have usually grown in by the 20%26#039;s. It%26#039;s good to get them removed, because:

1). The human jaw has gotten smaller over evolution and therefore, we no longer have enough room for 32 teeth...only 28.

2). They can also cause infection in the teeth near them, which can cause major gum infections/diseases over time...which could lead to teeth lose.

3). If not removed, there is a good chance of them messing up your other teeth. They can push the other teeth and make them more vulnerable to moving.

I just had my wisdom teeth removed today actually! :) I am 19, but my bottom wisdom teeth grew in when I was around 16, but my top ones were impacted (meaning they are still under the gums). I was a nervous wreck, but it is a rather simple procedure. It goes quickly if you are knocked out, which I highly recommend. There is some pain at the end of the surgery. The pain really varies for different people. I have a pretty high tolerance for pain, so it is really not bothering me too much. It%26#039;s just soar and weird feeling.

No matter what, wisdom teeth removal is a normal procedure now-a-days. I hope all goes well...and if you do need to get them removed, the best of luck!
Reply:im gettin 3 of mine pulled and 1 cut out in 10 weeks.

Wisdom Teeth!!!?

I got my wisdom teeth taken out on Friday, now it%26#039;s Tuesday. They were all fully erupted, but on the bottom ones, they just had to cut a little. I had little to no pain for the first couple days, and only minimal swelling. I did bleed for a good 12 hours or so. My bottom two teeth hurt a little this morning, and I noticed white in the back on my mouth where the blood clot should be. (Once Friday, when I took out gauze, there was a clump of blood) I was just wondering if this could be a dry socket or is it just normal healing??

Wisdom Teeth!!!?
i believe if it was dry socket u would be in pain quite a bit. Just continue doing what ur doing but doooooo nooooot rinse ur mouth out in anyway shape or form. I had my wisdom teeth out and had no prob...my older sis had her teeth taken out and she had dry sockets and was in pain for 2 weeks %26gt;_%26lt;
Reply:Chances are, you don%26#039;t have a dry-socket. You%26#039;ll be in enormous amount of pain if you do. Dry-socket is a condition when the clot over a wound is dislodged, and when it happens, it%26#039;s normally within 24-48 hours of extraction(s), and it is extremely painful. Dry socket is normally caused by trauma, smoking, use of straws (creating negative pressure in your mouth), etc.

What you have could very well be minor irritation/infection to the tissue around it. What you can do to take care of it is to rinse with warm salt water frequently. Also, when you brush your teeth, be careful with tooth paste on the extraction sites due to the fact that whitening toothpaste could have lots of abbrasives within it. Last but not least, see your dentist for a follow up appointment, so he can more justly Dx your condition or, put you one antibiotics, if you are not on already. Hope you feel better soon:)!

Wisdom teeth..?

what harm can i cause if i pull my own wisdom teeth..everyone says i can make it worser but i pulles out 2 of my wisdont teeth myself and new ones grew without any problems..the one i have now has a big cavity and it hurts and i want to take it out..i cant go to the dentist so dont tell me that..what can i do to take it outt...

Wisdom teeth..?
You should really have them take out by a professional. You should look into a dental school in your area. The dental students will be doing the work on you under the supervision of a dentist so it makes the cost for a procedure very cheap. And by the way, if you pull a wisdom tooth another one will not grow back because you only have 4 wisdom teeth. Some people have more than 4 but it is not very common. Please go see a professional so you don%26#039;t cause any damage to your teeth. It is very important to keep your teeth healthy so you do not lose them.
Reply:Well whatever you pulled out before couldn%26#039;t have been wisdom teeth because they don%26#039;t grow back, you only get four. I would honestly suggest an orthopedic surgeon over a dentist.
Reply:Try the emergency. Or try to get a free dental appointment through your local community health clinic. But try not to take any bone head suggestions. The wisdom tooth is a sensitive area. Teeth are easy to infect. Take Care.
Reply:U are nuts. Don%26#039;t pull out your own teeth. U could get a serious infection and end up in the hospital. U could even end up dead from infection. U are not a dentist. Stop this now before u really mess up. U really need a dentist and they will send u to an oral surgeon.
Reply:I had my top two wisdom teeth pulled by my dentist last year and the pain was minimal. My bottom two were taken out at the hospital a few weeks later and the process is so quick and easy. (I also did not have to pay as I went to the hospital) They put you to sleep and send you home within two hours with a swollen face and painkillers. The swelling lasts for a few days and the pain is controlled with the painkillers. I now have an abscess due to a recent root canal and it is the worst pain in the world - hence the reason I am still awake at 4 in the morning! Good luck!
Reply:since u cant go to the dentist ur gonna have to suffer...

Wisdom Teeth?

I%26#039;m 18 and one of my window teeth are coming through. then i read a question about people having them removed..

does everyone have to get their wisdom teeth removed ??

Wisdom Teeth?
you don%26#039;t have to have them removed, only if they become impacted, infected etc. your dentist will tell you if you need them removing.

I had mine taken out when I was around 22 as they were so painfull and kept locking my jaw closed, which wasn%26#039;t to funny. I had them taken out with a general anaesthetic.
Reply:Not everyone has to get their wisdom teeth removed. If they come through okay and there is sufficient space in your mouth for them then there is no reason to have them removed.
Reply:No, of course not.

I did...

It was a piece of piss!

I had two out one week and went back next week for the other two.
Reply:Hi!

I was told by my dentist to have my wisdom teeth removed before they started to give me trouble.

I had to go into hospital to have them taken out and this was done under general anaesthetic.

It was quite a while ago and I can still remember the pain when I got home the day I was discharged! I was lay wailing in pain on my husband%26#039;s knee!

If you have yours taken out - make sure you have THE strongest pain killers you can in the house - you%26#039;ll need them!

Best of luck!
Reply:No, I%26#039;m 23 and have had all mine come through. They only remove them if you%26#039;re suffering from lots of pain. I had a bit of pain with one of them but a good tip is to swill your mouth out with salt water cos the gums get tender when food gets trapped underneath them and the salt water helps to clean them out.

Hope this answer helps!
Reply:First, you%26#039;ll need to get xrays from a dentist to check if there is room in your mouth. Most people don%26#039;t have the room, or they come in crooked, etc. that they need to be removed.

Second, if you do need them removed, you%26#039;ll need to schedule an appointment with an oral surgeon. These procedures are very common and are normally done in their office under general anesthesia. I had mine out when I was 18 and it was a piece of cake.

You might be lucky if they come in straight and you have room, but it is unlikely. Mine hadn%26#039;t even come through my gums when I had mine taken out. Plus, the younger you are, the easier the recovery. Just something to keep in mind.
Reply:no not really i didnt but its ment to hurt ALOT !!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:Only if they are impacted - mine were. This is normally hereditary, and you can check family history of wisdom teeth problems and also ask your dentist for an X-ray to foresee any future problems.

I had mine removed at 23, best thing for them. If they are going impacted and you keep them in they will cause you problems later in life. Some people keep them in but most have them removed - you have a local anaesthetic and it takes about 10-20 mins to remove each side as the do one side at a time 3 weeks apart.

Doesn%26#039;t hurt!! Good luck!
Reply:Nope, not all people. It depends upon if you have room for them or, not! Getting them cut out is NO fun and it can lead to a lifetime of trouble if not done appropriately. I know, they took all four of mine as i did not have enough room for them. I got dry socket in two of them and thought I was going to die, it was so very painful!

As I have gotten older, all four places tend to want to get infected and or, sore! No one has been able to tell me why!! Best of luck to you and i hope there is enough room for yours to come in normally!
Reply:Not everyone has to have them removed. I just had mine pulled 3 days ago and I haven%26#039;t had any problems, yet. The only thing is that I love to eat and this soft diet is driving me insane. Mine weren%26#039;t impacted or hurting, but my dentist advised me to watch the surrounding gums. Since there was a little bit of gum receding from my wisdom teeth, I decided to get them pulled to prevent gum disease and cavities later.
Reply:Get a x-ray. They can cause overcrowding, pain in some people. Mines did. I ignored mines for 2 years. Two were impacted and the other two were fully out but causing my teeth to move. Now they%26#039;re slightly crooked. And I use to have braces. =( And jaw, ear, and headaches for me. Once i took them out, they went with it. Best thing I ever did was to take them out. Best to get a doc to look at it. They may be fine for you. Or if not, get them taken care of early. Good luck!

Wisdom teeth?

I had all four wisdom teeth extracted on Monday. The swelling has gone down considerably and there%26#039;s no pain, but I noticed my jaw will not open very wide. It feels like it literally can%26#039;t open past a certain point (I can just barely fit a toothbrush between my teeth). I%26#039;m wondering if this is normal, and if so, how long should my jaw be restricted?

Wisdom teeth?
I believe that it%26#039;s normal, although you%26#039;ll obviously want to make a phone call to your doctor to double check about your specific situation. When I had my wisdom teeth pulled, my jaw actually made a clicking sound for a month! They have to open your mouth very wide for a long period of time for the surgery, so it%26#039;s not abnormal to have side effects from it. The good news is that my jaw went back to normal, and so should yours.
Reply:my mom works for a dentist and I have had the same operation about 2 years ago, and you need to consult your dentist soon!

Your jaw should not be constricted like that... you prolly need some x-rays to truly find out since you can%26#039;t open.
Reply:you should talk to your dentist. maybe your face is swollen. try applying heat. when I had mine out, I developed a dry socket and had to go back to the dentist . It was quite painful.
Reply:It sure seems normal to me.

Give it time.

Plant question

Wisdom Teeth?

Is it really necessary to have them pulled? If they are not pulled will wisdom teeth as they grow cause your other teeth to become crooked?

Wisdom Teeth?
Whether or not to extract (pull) third molars (wisdom teeth) should be determined by several factors: (1) can you clean them adequately (2) are they in a position that will cause future problems, which may include crowding, etc. (3) general dental health (4) occlusion (the way upper teeth meet and fit with lower teeth), among others. There are many different opinions among dentists, orthodontists, and oral surgeons. Each person must be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Reply:no u dont have to get them pulled-- i did-- and it was nothing- i had all 4 out at one time (crowding) usually there isnt room for them -
Reply:You don%26#039;t really have to, because I sitll have mine and I am fine. If they are really causing you trouble (if they are hurting) I think you should consider taking them out.
Reply:My daughter had all four pulled at one time since she didn%26#039;t have room in her mouth for them to come in. She was fine. No problems
Reply:That%26#039;s an old myth, take the wisdom out because they are very hard to keep clean, they%26#039;ll end up decaying anyways. You don%26#039;t ever want to have a toothache.
Reply:I%26#039;m 17 right now, and my dentist said that, although I have four wisdom teeth, she doesn%26#039;t think that I need to have them pulled because the teeth are growing in properly and they are being cleaned well.

Just make sure that you always brush to the very back and floss there too! It just all depends on how big your jaw is and if it can accomodate more teeth.

Your dentist will tell you if you need to take them out or not.
Reply:no its not necessaay if dey are not causing u dese problems...

1)DECAY...saliva bacteria and food particles can collect around wisdom tooth causing themselves or the neighbouring teeth to decay...so the whole teeth removal is preferred...

2)GUM INFECTION.when a wisdom tooth is partially erupted food and bacterias can colect under da gum and cause local infection....which may result in pain ,,swellin...trismus nad infection....

3) PRESSURE PAIN..pain may result form the presuure of erupting wisdom tooth...against other teeth which may also occur in erosion of the teeth...

4)CYST FORMATION cyst can develop in the soft tissue around impacte dwisdom tooth...which can ccause bone displacement...jaw destruction..and damageto nearby teeth...

5)HYGIENE,,due to difficulty in cleanin dere may be bad breath asociated wid dis///

so if u r havin any of dese problems u can go for extarction otherwise forget it ...and no dey don affect other teeth unless dere is some infection i n dem....

Wisdom teeth?

My wisdom teeth have been coming in now for a while. And they just all of a sudden started to hurt really bad. I%26#039;m thinking that maybe they are really breaking through the skin. The skin around the tooth is a pinkish white and I know that when like a baby is teething, there gums turn like a pinkish white... I know they are not infected, and I know I need to get them out. But . I guess I was just wondering if they are hurting so bad because they are coming in more so, and how I can get the pain to stop %26#039;till I can afford to get them taken out.... OH and how much do you think it is to be put out for the surgery?

Thanks

Wisdom teeth?
My wisdom teeth hurt quite a bit when they were coming in. They would hurt for about 2-3 days at a time every couple months. That lasted for about a year until they fully grew in, or enough to at least break the surface.

My problem was that my teeth were too far back and the gum still covered half the tooth even after it grew in. This caused food to get stuck under the gum and gave me a raging infection in my tooth that caused me to start running fevers and be out from work for a week. I was scared to death of getting the teeth pulled, but having them pulled was not near as bad as the pain from the multiple infections I kept getting with them in.

The cost really depends on whether you have dental insurance and whether you want to be knocked out for the procedure. My entire procedure was $525, but I had insurance and a good chunk of the cost for having my teeth pulled was the cost of the anesthesia since I was too chicken to be awake for it. I think that without insurance it would have been $1600. It also depends on whether the teeth are straight, or partially embedded in the bone. Or, like mine have crooked roots and require an actual surgeon.

After the procedure, the pain was not too horrible, jus a dull ache for about a wake. Living off of stove top stuffing, jello and othert soft items.
Reply:the surgery is pretty expensive..mine was about 3,000 buck. But also 2 of mine were impacted meaning that they hadnt come out of the gums. I think thats why my surgery was so expensive. It sounds to me as if your teeth are starting to erupt and that you might need to have them taken out. Do you have insurance? because usually most of the surgery is covered by that. You need to see a dentist and have xrays to determine if you need surgery though.
Reply:my surgery was just under 3,000 dollars 20 years ago.

ambesol will help with temporary numbing of pain.

kava is a natural novacain. And motrin also helps.
Reply:The same thing happened to me. Right now I have one wisdom tooth fully in and it took about 2 and a half months. It was painful for a while but once all the meat on your tooth moves back you won%26#039;t feel the pain anymore. I wouldn%26#039;t recommend this because I don%26#039;t know how wise it is, but I%26#039;ve found that pushing a little at the gum from the area nearest the molar in front of it opens the gum for the tooth to come out. I%26#039;ve done this to my second wisdom tooth and I haven%26#039;t had much pain.
Reply:Usually pain killers Motrin/Tylenol can help till you get them removed.

Do you have health insurance? As far as surgery costs, look online for studies about pain and wisdom teeth removal. I had a friend who got his taken out at NIH for a study like that and the treatment/surgery was free. But he didn%26#039;t get to keep his teeth.

You could call dentist office to ask about prices. And unless you want to be awake for the procedure ask about anesthesia too.
Reply:A couple of years ago I had one that was doing the same as what you described. An oral surgeon wanted to knock me out, and take it out. Then he said the price was about $450. I went to a regular dentist who gave me a local and pulled it out. He charged me $65. I guess it%26#039;s up to you and who you choose to see.
Reply:Ok, try this: I went to this website for Care Credit, they list Dr%26#039;s and Dentists (even vet%26#039;s) who use this method of payment, its like a credit card for health care only. Easy payments too. Try it out....dont neglet your teeth they will only get worse!!!
Reply:That happened to me...It%26#039;ll go away, my jaw even got tight for a couple of days but that%26#039;s only cause it was breaking through. They take a long time to come out also, the bottoms ones started coming out when I turned 17, it%26#039;s been over a year and they aren%26#039;t done coming out yet. The top ones have barely started the process. I thought I had to take mine out also but my grandma, who I trust more than some money-hungry dentists, told me that it was natural for it to hurt while it%26#039;s breaking through the skin...Imagine how babies must feel.
Reply:My son just had a wisdom tooth extracted by our dentist. The cost before insurance was around $180. Ten years ago, I had to travel out of town to have three wisdom teeth cut out and I was put to sleep. It was about $500 back then. See if your regular dentist can take them out.

I just find out that my wisdom teeth is growing now. But I think my medical insurance (Aetna) does not cover dental service. I will back to my country in 60 days, can I wait until that time to visit my dentist. Or I have see the dentist now to check whether I need to remove the teeth ASAP?

I think you should be able to wait, unless there cause alot of discomfort.

If my wisdom teeth aren%26#039;t bothering me, do I have to get them taken out?? it%26#039;s expensive and I%26#039;m nervous about the procedure but I don%26#039;t want to crowd or damage my other teeth? what do you think?

Wisdom teeth?
Go with what your dentist is telling you.

Most people have to get them removed, if they are not bothering you now and your jaw is not big enough for them they will bother you in the future.

It can be expensive depending on weather the teeth are impacted (attached to the bone) or they are partialy errupted.

If the wisdom teeth are erupted (out of the gum) they can usualy do it in office and its the lease expensive.

If they are impacted or under the gum you will need to see an oral surgen and they will probubly take them all at once.

I had all my wisdom teeth impacted and had them taken out by an oral surgen it was $1200 (I live in Canada so maybe different for you).

Dont be nervous about it, if you need surgery you will not be awake and if it is in office try and find a dentist who uses nitrous oxide (laughing gas) this causes you to forget about whats going on and makes you less nervous.

Good luck!
Reply:The cost in Florida is about $900 US per wisdom tooth, so that is much more expensive than Canada. Next life I will drive to Canada to have all four removed.

Later in life, when the body stops growing and actually begins to shrink due to poor nutrition, lack of execise, disease, heiredity, etc., the lower jaw will start to recede if the body can not absorb calcium from the diet (the body will take calcium from your bones similar to how a pool low on calcium will consume the calcium from the walls of the swimming pool). Take daily calcium suppliments, exercise the jaw (shaving with an electric shaver for a man is quite stimulating to the jaw and therefore very good if done daily), eat low acidic foods and beverages. No need to dispose of those wisdom teeth yet, in case other teeth in your mouth fail for any reason those wisdom teeth come in handy to tighten your mouth up. If you do pull your wisdom teeth, swallowing pills will become slightly more difficult, food will also collect behind the last tooth where the wisdom teeth were making brushing two times a day more imperative, also sensitivity to hot and cold will become more accute with Wisdom teeth removed since the space vacated by those teeth will allow liquids to access the jaw unless you opt for an expensive ($2000 per tooth extraction where the dentist actually laser seals the gum line after surgery). Most of the time the Dentist will just tell you that one or two stiches will do and they send you off with cotton crowed in your mouth bleeding for a week and those dentists crunch you like an annomymous number into their hefty bank accounts. Crowding of teeth occur when the jaw (lower, and sometimes upper) recede causing those remaining teeth to crowd together which could cause other issues especially if you do allot of jaw movements like talking and those teeth are rubbing together possibly making the jaw, gum, teeth raw and succeptable to infection.
Reply:same with mine.... they were fine and probably would have been able to be left in but my mom and i weren%26#039;t going to risk wasting the $4,000 worth of braces work! i got them taken out just with Novocaine they did both on my right side then a few months later did the other two... just getting Novocaine was WONDERFUL. i was fine the next day and i went out shopping and such, not a lot of pain at all... only big issues were the blood the first day and not being able to use a straw.

how many wisdom teeth are you suppose to get when you get all your teeth

Wisdom teeth?
Four.
Reply:Although most people have four wisdom teeth, it is possible to have more or fewer. Absence of one or more wisdom teeth is an example of hypodontia. Any extra teeth are referred to as Supernumerary teeth
Reply:4 more ... the max but sometimes you may get less than that or not at all
Reply:Four. They are the last teeth to arrive - two upper jaw and two lower jaw.

Wisdom teeth???

today my appointment was made to get my wisdom teeth out, but they aren%26#039;t actuallly poking out of my gums yet at all....so they have to put me under to cut them out. my appointment is on monday and i%26#039;m kinda nervous....

anyone ever had this done before your teeth were actually OUT yet? how bad is it?

Wisdom teeth???
That%26#039;s the way mine were. Make sure you don%26#039;t eat anything hard to chew (like meat) or drink out of a straw for several days or a week. And if the pain pills your doc gives you don%26#039;t help, be sure to go into see him to make sure you don%26#039;t have a dry socket, the most common problem with this procedure. The actual procedure won%26#039;t hurt, and you%26#039;ll be numb for most of the first day, so that%26#039;s not bad. Just take it easy for a week or so afterwards, and keep plenty of cold, easy to eat food on hand (like ice cream, apple sauce, yogurt, etc.). Good luck!
Reply:YucK! Dont go!
Reply:with 1 only thank goodness-it does hurt and you will be on pain pills after for awhile as they heal
Reply:You sound like when I had mine taken out, and they had to cut/drill them out. It wasnt that bad, you will be sore for around a week more than likely. If you smoke, stop for at least 5 days, or you will be at a greater risk for developing a dry socket. I also highly recommend getting an electric heating pad to use starting the day after the surgery to use 15 min on, half hour off, and repeat as needed. I routinely take impacted teeth,(like yours), out on a regular basis, and overall its not that bad of an experience, but do expect to be sore. Hope this helps.
Reply:I haven%26#039;t gone through this yet, but I have to get the same thing done in a couple weeks.
Reply:my wife had her wisdom tooth extracted years ago. she was scared as hell only because, knowing her low pain treshhold, she freaked out. but it went pretty well. you%26#039;ll be amazed how dentists have the uncanny ability to get you sooooo comfortable once they get you on the chair. hang loose sweety.
Reply:everyone feels the same way..alot of patients worry..the doctor is a professional and does know what he%26#039;s talking about....its the truth wisdom teeth that arent fully developed ARE easy to remove..you will be in and out quickly..the whole time you are in the chair you will be getting numb and the extraction will take a matter of minutes...i work will and oral sergeon who removes wisdom teeth all the time and tell all the patients the same thing..they take the wisdom teeth out before they show because if they dont it could start to push on your other teeth and cause decay on those teeth and could possibly shift you r teeth if you wait to long...It is a better decision to get them extracted now...you are doing the right thing:)
Reply:I had this done, all four of my wisdom teeth were cut out. It also takes about 1-2 hours for them to all be out. Sorry to scare you but it was the worst pain I have ever had. I%26#039;ve even broken 5 bones and had one surgery over my life time and I%26#039;ve never felt pain like when I had my wisdom teeth done. You want to make sure that someone drives you home. I drove myself home and I had to keep stopping every 3 minutes or so to spit out the blood. Its going to hurt bad for at least 3 days. So make sure you get the pain medicine right away. I feel bad for you!!
Reply:yeah i just had mine out s days ago there is slight pain but the put you under and then give you drugs to ease the pain but im gonna be honest with you it helps but not totaly rince with salt water on the 2nd day and put ice on your cheeks it helps a bit

Wisdom Teeth :) :) :)?

Okay so i started to get this tooth in the back of my mouth about two monthes ago. It seems like it stop coming out about two-three weeks ago. And i haven%26#039;t started to get my other wisdom teeth. Is something wrong? How long after you started to get one did the other start to come? thank you. I%26#039;m not being paronoid just wondering. lol

Wisdom Teeth :) :) :)?
its completly dependent on ur mouth i only have two wisdom teeth and they wont ever even surface get an e-ray picw/e at the dentist he can tell yah
Reply:my cousin has had 3 sets of permanent teeth because someone keeps knocking them out and they grow back theeth are really wierd that way you dont know if your going to grow them or not
Reply:I have about half of what I think are my wisdom teeth. I guess I%26#039;m not so wise. One on top one opposite side on the bottom.

They%26#039;re more prone to decay in most cases as far as I know - but in my case there was spare room...errr... maybe that has to do with the fact that they%26#039;re not conflicting on the same side?

Welp I%26#039;m not a dentist. One thing is for sure, you%26#039;ll know when you need to see your dentist and he%26#039;ll know how to keep you in good oral health.

:-)
Reply:It varies person to person...personally the process was sloooooow and painful for me. I got all four but each took 6 months to a year to fully grow out and meanwhile i had constant swelling and pain. It may be that it is taking a while for it to come out as it did for me or sometimes they don%26#039;t even come out fully and yout dentist needs to cut your gum to get it out.

One advise...get rid of the ASAP! I had really strait teeth but as my wisdom teeth grew out they pushed my bottom teet together...doesn%26#039;t look so great anymore...same happened with my sis.

Good luck...hope it%26#039;s painless =)
Reply:Nothing Wrong at all,Everyone is unique,it depends upon the space available for the tooth, any interfrences for the tooth eruption or its impacted,so do not bother,if not convienced meet your dentist he would guide u throu this
Reply:You might never get the rest of them. I only had my bottom ones.
Reply:Ask your dentist!

Complications from wisdom tooth removal are rare. They include infection, temporary sinus complications, injury to other teeth, numbness (usually temporary), temporary joint problems in the jaw, and in very rare cases, jaw fracture. If the jaw seems weak after surgery, your doctor may advise avoiding hard foods until the healing is complete.

The outcome of surgery to remove wisdom teeth is often visible: chipmunk cheeks. The good news is the symptoms don%26#039;t last long, and dentists have many ways to minimize swelling or pain. The symptoms rarely last more than 48 to 72 hours.

To allow the area to heal, you should eat only soft foods, soups, and liquids for at least the first two days following surgery. Complications are rare, but you should report any of the following symptoms of infection to your oral surgeon immediately:

• Fever of more than 100 degrees

• Abnormal swelling

• Pain or a bad or salty taste in your mouth, whether or not there%26#039;s discharge from the site

In some cases, blood doesn%26#039;t properly form a clot in the tooth%26#039;s empty socket, leading to a local infection known as %26quot;dry socket%26quot; about 48 hours after surgery. Although painful, the condition is easily treated by placing a medicated dressing on the extraction site.

Of course, some bleeding and swelling around the empty socket is normal. Applying pressure to your gums will usually stop bleeding, and ice helps ease swelling. Dentists advise patients to rinse with warm water and to use ice or a cold pack around the affected area of the jaw to reduce swelling. Patients who don%26#039;t place ice in their mouths or ice packs on their jaw after the procedure are usually the ones in the worst shape when they go to see the dentist for follow-up appointments a few days after surgery.

Wisdom teeth?

im getting my wisdom teeth taken out including four other teeth and im terrified. i hate needles, the sight of blood, everything. im going to having %26#039;laughing gas%26#039;. does that really help you relax or feel better?

Wisdom teeth?
I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed this morning. The laughing gas helps! I closed my eyes when they gave it to me and I remember feeling so relaxed and ready to sleep. They put me to sleep with another anesthetic after that and the procedure was completely painless and nowhere near uncomfortable. I hate needles and get pretty nervous about things like this too but I dont even remember them putting in the IV after the laughing gas. I did not get giddy or goofy feeling, I just felt completeycomfortable, calm and completely relaxed.

Prepare for some discomfort afterwards, so far for me it is not too bad, I am staying on toip of the pain with the meds they prescribed and using ice almost constantly- Ice is essential!! Get about four of those flexible hot/ cold ice packs so you have enough to rotate and have one constantly cold and ready for use.

From what I hear from others who have had the procedure and from the doctor- oyu might have a few days, a week at the most of discomfort after the procedure but you should be fine- as far as the procedure itself goes, dont sweat it, once you get the gas- you wont care about much else after that

Hope it all goes well for you! I am sure you will be fine!
Reply:yes the laughing gas will make help you greatly. you will be so numb from the anesthetic that you wont feel anything. i just had mine out a couple months ago.

the pain actually comes after its all done, and hour or 2 later. stay ahead of the pain and TAKE the pain releivers they prescribe! dont wait for the pain to come on full force. the first day will be the worst..then it will get better and better. you will be fine! hang in there!
Reply:I have had eight teeth taken out (four of which were impacted wisdom teeth) %26amp; it doesn%26#039;t hurt, but it bleeds a lot. Ask them if they can put you to sleep when they do it. Laughing gas does help-it makes you feel all tingly, like you%26#039;re high or something-it definitely helped me a lot. Good luck.
Reply:Nitrous Oxide, laughing gas does work, and it does relax you. When I had my wisdom teeth taken out because they were impacted, I went to an oral surgen, who put me in a dental hospital overnight,as all together I had 5 teeth extracted, and they knocked me out , so I did not feel a thing, but was pretty sore for about a week. The main thing to be careful about with this gas is not getting to much as it can harm you, but usually there are two people present, and one person keeps an eye on the oxygen, and nitrous mix. With the gas you should not have a problem, and you will not see blood or needles, as long as the dentist is a good one with a good assistant. Good Luck.............
Reply:I feel your pain... I just got back from the %26quot;Oral Surgeon%26quot; and I have to get all four of my wisdom teeth out over the summer. He said I%26#039;ll be knocked out, don%26#039;t know if that%26#039;s the same thing but he said I won%26#039;t feel anything.

yup, you could be sore for another week.... When I was at that stage, my gums slowly bled and left nasty blood clots in the back of my mouth. These would then come loose while trying to eat...nasty stuff... This stopped about a week later. I was then fine....Good Luck..
Reply:You might want to talk to your dentist or whoever it was that performed the surgery. I had mine out and within 24 hours was out playing basketball. Granted i was spitting a bit of blood, but i had no pain. I%26#039;m not sure you should have that much pain...I think within a couple of days i was good...plus...i didn%26#039;t have to have stitches cut out...they should have used disolving ones!!
Reply:Don%26#039;t worry it%26#039;s normal. It takes a long time for your mouth to heal. The cramping and soreness may take up to a month to fade away depending on how senstive you are. Try advil or excedrin for the pain.
Reply:You%26#039;re fine, and those after-effects are perfectly normal. Keep in mind that these guys essentially cut deep into your gums and ripped out four massive teeth. You%26#039;re going to feel that for a little while. =P

Be glad that yours went over better than mine. Not only did my cheeks get all poofy, but (from what my dentist explained to me) the erosion caused by my teeth sliding into place to fill in the gaps of where my wisdom teeth had been caused massive irritation in my gums, which caused large amounts of puss to be produced. That puss filled the holes where my wisdom teeth used to be, and, needless to say, puss tastes HORRIBLE. That lasted for at least two months. It was miserable.

Here%26#039;s hoping your recovery is quick and puss-free.
Reply:Did the oral surgeon tell you anything? I had my wisdom teeth removed almost a year ago. I had two dry sockets (both on the bottom). He had put in dissolvable stitches because he was located out of town. I think the pain you%26#039;re experiencing is normal but you should definitely check with whoever did your surgery. I was on pain meds for awhile then they just packed my %26quot;teeth%26quot; (dry sockets). If you need any further advice feel free to contact me.
Reply:I got 4 out a little over a week and a half ago. I had swelling and light bruising. Two impacted, 2 fully in. The soreness is still there. On the left side where they had to stitch up. Not only at the hole but the other teeth next to it is sore too. My doc said it can take up to 2 weeks and to take the pain killers. The holes will fully heal in about 2 months. And to rinse w/warm salt water after every meal. Sounds like you%26#039;re healing okay. Or pop in for a check-up at the doc. It takes less than 5 mins. Good luck! =)
Reply:this is fine dont worry it can take up to like a month or more for those pains in your jaw to go away it did for me
Reply:See a dentist!

Wisdom teeth are third molars that usually appear between the ages of 18 and 20 (although they may appear when older, younger, or fail to appear at all). They are called %26quot;wisdom teeth%26quot; because they appear so late—much later than the other teeth, at an age where people are supposedly wiser than as a child, when the other teeth erupt. Often they need to be removed when they impact against other teeth—colloquially known as %26quot;coming in sideways.%26quot;

Wisdom teeth are often impacted, meaning they are covered by soft tissue (gums), hard tissue (bone) or both. Just as with any extraction, once teeth are removed, the body starts the process of healing the extraction site, via inflammation (sending cells, nutrients and proteins to the site of the wound) and wound healing (organizing all those things into a matrix and eventually filling in the socket). Unfortunately, inflammation hurts, and that%26#039;s why there%26#039;s ibuprofen- over the counter is fine, but usually your dentist will give you something stronger (by prescription).

If the teeth are in your mouth (erupted), the surgical procedure will go more smoothly (most of the time), than if they are impacted, in which case more gum tissue has to be pushed around, and possibly some bone removed to get the teeth out. One last thing about 3rd molars- they are like the wild cards of molars. They can tilt all different ways, and have roots that twist in different directions. Bottom line- the more hard and soft tissue (bone and gums) that have to be disturbed to remove the tooth, the more complicated the surgery, the more healing there is, and the more pain. Make sure you ask your dentist for pain meds that are appropriate for the level of impaction that the wisdom teeth had.

Reply:lol i know u already have alot of answers i just want to say that monday must have been wisdom teeth extraction day lol i know of a few other ppl that got theres some at least out on the 14th lol i even got mine out all 4 of them only stitches on the bottom which i went back and got them taken out today lol

ur mouth may b a tender for a while but i would go to the dentist and get them to look at it or at least phone them and explain whats going on

good luck hope ur mouth gets better
Reply:It is normal. Some people heal sooner than others. Your jaw was manipulated in so many ways it isn%26#039;t used to moving. You could possibly be sore for some time. I had mine out the 11th and mine still feels bruised. My age (37) has something to do with my slow healing as well as the jaw manipulation. The pain will eventually go away.

Wisdom teeth?

I%26#039;m 18 and i can see some white under the gum in the back (not erupted yet). Although my teeth are already crowded - and i don%26#039;t mind that - there is still some room on my gum and i haven%26#039;t felt any pain, just a little bit of pressure that is almost unnoticeable. My question is: how much room do wisdom teeth need to come out vertically? How big are they? I want to keep them...

Wisdom teeth?
Wisdom teeth are deeply impacted in the gums. You might not have issues now, but you might later. The typical reason their removal is that they are hard to reach for cleaning, which leads to cavities, affect the placement of your other teeth. I was in my late 20%26#039;s when my wisdom teeth all came in. If you have healthy brushing habits, and are comfortable once they are completely erupted, most dentists will not pull them unless you request it be done. I%26#039;m aware that you can keep teeth so long as the tooth is not infected, then it%26#039;s medical infectious hazard and the dentist will not permit you to do so.
Reply:i don.t kno the measurements on how much room they need, lol......but i have all four of my wisdom teeth and they are all erupted, have had them that way forever and a dayi refuse to let them take them out cuz they fit........they are bout the same size as the rest or ur molars.......keep em!~!!!
Reply:You need to watch the gum tissue back there. If the tooth is pushing the gum up and you are biting on it at all, it can cause serious tissue problems. Also, if your teeth are crowded already, then there is very little chance that the wisdom teeth have enough room. Often they are removed because they do not come in straight and you run the risk of it damaging the roots of your other molars. Also, they often do not have normal enamel on them and get decay that can not be reached to be fixed and can cause an infection in your jaw, making them hard to removed. Ask your dentist, if he/she suggests you get them out, take their advice and save yourself the money and pain and do it now.
Reply:If they are not affecting you once they erupt, then there%26#039;s no reason to get them removed if you want to keep them. If they feel uncomfortable due to not enough room, then it would be wise to get at least one side of them removed. I only needed to remove the top and bottom on the right side because they were growing on an angle and starting to push my other teeth closer together. One had to be surgically removed (had to have stitches) and the other just pulled out. When they erupt all the way, you%26#039;ll know what you need to do.

Wisdom teeth?

My wisdom teeth are starting to come through and I was looking for some stories and advice from people who have had them extracted in Australia. I%26#039;m particularly interested to know how much extraction costs. Also, I was wondering if anyone could tell me roughly what factors mean that the teeth have to be removed. If anyone could recommend a good dentist in the Kingsbury area of Melbourne too, that would be awesome.

Wisdom teeth?
The best website you can go to, in order to find out everything on specialist wisdom teeth removal, costs, stories related to wisdom teeth, post operative care, as well as newsletters about wisdom teeth, is http://www.oceansurgical.com.au. Good luck, I hope everything goes well for you! And remember, only go to an oral and maxillofacial surgeon to have your wisdom teeth removed. You can find out about OM surgeons in your town by going to http://www.anzaoms.org
Reply:I can%26#039;t help with the Australia bit. I can tell you that they don%26#039;t NEED to be removed. Usually it%26#039;s only if they%26#039;re causing pain or prone to infection. Also if they are doing to be displacing your other teeth (people who have had braces usually get the removed). Have an x-ray and an opinion first.
Reply:They could very well need to be removed. Mine were coming through with no pain and were tilted foward, which meant eventually they would overcrowd my mouth and stuff up my bite (crooked teeth). I saw the x-ray, and it made sense. The dentist reccomended I get them out asap, so I did. Extraction costs depend on how many teeth you need pulled and how exposed they are.

I%26#039;d say go to the dentist and get his/her opinion on them. And x-ray will likely be necessary.

Wisdom Teeth?

one of my wisdom teeth is starting to grow in. I dont really have much room back there lol, i was wondering when would it be a good time to get it pulled out before it starts to over crowed and push my teeth out of alignment. And what is the pain level of the getting pulled out?

Wisdom Teeth?
The best person to discuss this with is the dentist. If you opt to have the tooth pulled, it is better to have it done as soon as you can. The tooth will not have roots into the jawbone until it is completely in place for a while, and until then most dentists can remove it in their office using local anesthetic. My daughter had two bottom wisdome teeth removed in this way. She had no problems at all, had it done in the afternoon and was home doing fine that night. She took Motrin for the ache, and was well enough the next day to go out with friends to movies. My son had to have his surgically removed because they impacted, and he was out for nearly a week. If you have it done before trouble starts it%26#039;s not nearly as bad to recover from or to do. If you put it off until there is trouble, then of course, it%26#039;s not as pleasant. So just start with a discussion with the dentist. If you decide to go ahead and do it now, it should be a lot easier on you in the long run. The folks who have problems are the ones who wait, or who have an infection, or whose teeth are not coming in at all. Since thats not your trouble, it shouldn%26#039;t be anything comparible having it removed.
Reply:You should make an appointment to see your dentist soon, they will take xrays and tell you in what time frame you should get them removed. If the wisdom teeth are not impacted then the pain is minimal. Plus they will prescribe you pain medication.
Reply:The dentist pulled all 4 of my widom teeth at the same time and only two of them were starting to come in. They had to cut the other two out. It was a couple of years ago but I don%26#039;t really remember there being much pain. What I do remember is coming off of the ansthetic and getting really sick but I don%26#039;t think that happens to everyone and it only lasted an hour or two. Anyway, you should definitely go see your dentist asap. Good luck!
Reply:You need to see your dentist for more advuce. Also, no matter how severe the pain might be, there may be an anesthesiologist to see to that so no worries. Hakuna matata

Good luck.
Reply:Until recently I had never had a filling, tooth out or anything major done to my mouth.

I was so scared... I went to the dentist as I was constantly in pain (I had all for many years, nearly 15 years) and I thought this isn%26#039;t right, I shouldn%26#039;t have to have pain all the time. Mine were impacted and very set in my mouth so I had to go to the hospital and get them out!

I got them removed the next day as I knew I would chicken out otherwise.

They completely numbed my mouth (with lots and lots of needles and guess what, they didn%26#039;t hurt) and all I felt was the tugging (But not as bad as it sounds.... honest!!!) The most painful part was the dentists hands pulling at my mouth.

Afterwards the bleeding sucked a bit, but stopped after a couple of hours.... I stayed in bed for 2 days on painkillers cause there was NO way I wanted to feel any pain. (lol)

It is worth it though and I wouldn%26#039;t have it any other way... no more pain.
Reply:My OPINION----Have them pulled out before they cause you problems later. The younger you are when you have those wisdom teeth out, the QUICKER you heal. You only have to do it once, UNLIKE your taxes which haunt you for life. Go in with a positive attitude and you will be just fine!!!!

Wisdom teeth?

what does it feel like when wisdom teeth are coming in? The right side of my gum (behind my molars) is extremely irratated and when i touch it with either my thumb (or gently poke it) with my finger, it hurts a lot. Is this another tooth coming in?? Or did i somehow injure my gums?

Wisdom teeth?
when my wisdom teeth came in, i experienced severe headaches and jaw pain. I just had to go to a dentist to confirm if I need them out.

Depending on how much room there is in your mouth or if they will interfere with your current teeth, you may need them out.

I did not experience any bleeding like you mentioned.

Sounds like you need to go to the dentist and get things checked out... gingervitis causes your gums to bleed and it may also be possible you have an abscessed tooth.
Reply:That%26#039;s certainly what my wisdom teeth felt like when they were coming in!
Reply:If you are between 16-21 years old, it%26#039;s probably wisdom teeth. They come in later and they can really be uncomfortable. If you%26#039;re worried, go see your dentist. In the meantime, take some anti-inflammatory (aspirin or ibuprophen with food) and reduce the pain and swelling. Just think how %26quot;smart%26quot; you%26#039;ll be when they all come in! Godloveya.
Reply:I think your gums are messed up. Or maybe you are just sensitive. Anyways, you know when you%26#039;re teeth are coming cuz u get these weird pains at the sides and back of your jaw. Also, if you run your tongue on the back of your teeth, you might be able to feel a bit of the tooth sticking out.

It will hurt a lot when the wisdom took grows at a weird angle, and pushes against the other teeth (disrupting them)... in that case (my case) you%26#039;d have to get them removed.
Reply:it can be your wisdom tooth. see your dentist for some advises.
Reply:That would be wisdom teeth. They do tend to come up to the surface and then recede again before they break through.. This is probably what%26#039;s going on. A lot of people get their wisdom teeth pulled as a matter of course, but it is not always necessary. If they come in straight and you have enough room in your mouth for them they are just like any other tooth... But be sure as they are coming in that you are brushing and flossing regularly - if they come up and break the skin and then recede a bit you risk infection from a piece of food getting caught in the skin.

Two of my wisdom teeth are coming in, both on the left side (top and bottom). It hurts pretty bad and is a little swollen too. I%26#039;ve got just a little bit of tooth begining to show on both the top and bottom. But it%26#039;s a pain in the @ss having to deal with this at work and in school. Is there anything I can do for the pain?!

Wisdom Teeth?
Take Bayer, or get them pulled. Personally I recomend getting them pulled if you can......I know that when mine came in they would constantly break the skin a little bit, and then get covered back up again. It meant that I had to deal with the pain off and on again for a few months. Whether you get them pulled or not, I hope you feel better!!
Reply:Ibprophen is about it. And really REALLY consider having them removed - I did and I suffered in misery everyday until I finally gave in and had them pulled...24 hours later I realized that it was the BEST decision I ever made.

I%26#039;m sorry youre hurting!
Reply:pull them
Reply:find someone who has some percacet, loritab, adovain(don%26#039;t know how to spell any of these correctly). These should be pretty easy to find at your school.
Reply:You need to see the dentist. The teeth may be %26quot;impacted%26quot; and need to be removed. You%26#039;ll be happy you did it.
Reply:you should talk to your dentist, and maybe get them removed..although that hurts like hell too (at least for me it did)
Reply:Use something called bonjela buy it at the pharmcy..or try some anastetic...there are som types you can buy in a tube just for tooth aches
Reply:They don%26#039;t hurt when they come out. Check, there might be something else, at least it didn%26#039;t hurt me when they were coming out, and no one i know of!
Reply:get%26#039;m removed ASAP...don%26#039;t wait until they are completely in..they can screw up your whole mouth and the recovery time and pain factor on removal is much worse!!!
Reply:Yea, sounds like its time to go see the dentist. He%26#039;ll probably suggest having them pulled. Ive had it done and had no problems or pain.
Reply:chew on something to help them come through
Reply:take some ibuprofen and get them taken out
Reply:I couldn%26#039;t eat anything but soup for about two weeks when mine first started to come in. When the second round started I went and had them pulled. I have found that Goody Powders work very well for tooth pain. You can find them next to the aspirins. They tast aweful but they work very well.
Reply:Go to the dentist ans have them removed. They move in and out for awhile and are very painful. Its better to just have them removed then to endure the pain you will have for a very long time
Reply:I have exactly the same problem, they are really painful, the best thing you can do is to take painkillers and use a mouth wash,as it soothes the teeth.
Reply:Ahh! I had such a horrible experience when my wisdom teeth came in. It hurt like hell to eat, and I had a hard time opening and closing my mouth all the way without the confounded pain.

Aspirin didn%26#039;t help much, especially when I still had to eat. The sooner you get them pulled, the better (it%26#039;s painless to have them pulled, trust me, I was awake the entire time and I didn%26#039;t feel a thing).
Reply:You can probably take an ibuprofin for the pain. But, you should also schedule an appt with a dentist. The chances of your wisdom teeth coming in perfectly are slim to none. I don%26#039;t know anyone who had their wisdom teeth come in perfectly. A lot of the times they come up in an angle--pushing the other molars over and causing even more pain and shifting, or even sideways. They may need to be extracted. If you have had braces recently, you can visit your orthodontist....he or she can send you straight to the oral surgeon.
Reply:Honestly, Kelly V is right, go to your dentist, and have them take a %26quot;Look, see%26quot; I went to the dentist about 3 months ago, and I found out that my wisdom teeth were SEVERELY impacted which caused a LOT of pain. My wisdom teeth were shaped like %26quot;L%26quot;s on the side! (Ouch) So, in the mean time, take some Ibuprofen, probably 3 or 4 depending on how much pain you%26#039;re in. MAKE SURE YOU GO TO THE DENTIST!!

Good luck and cheers ^_^
Reply:Try using Ora jell, (not sure is the right name) but go to Infants section and you%26#039;ll find it.

This should lessen you%26#039;re discomfort/pain.
Reply:I%26#039;d talk to an oral surgeon about getting them removed. I had to have mine removed. The actual surgery was not bad, for me, at least as they knocked me out with IV sedation, nitrous oxide and novacaine. And after the surgery I didn%26#039;t have a whole lot of pain, it only hurt when I tried to eat solid food to soon. I was given a perscription for pain meds to take at home. But for right now, you may want to try some ibprofin or motrin and some oral numbing gel.
Reply:Try Oragel. It numbs the gums temporarily.

Wisdom Teeth?

I think one of my wisdom teeth are coming in. How do I know if it is one or not? Dose everyone get them pulled? Why do they pull them? Is there any way to keep from having them pulled? How many teeth should the adult human have?

Wisdom Teeth?
Compare this chart to what you teeth you have in your mouth

http://www.ada.org/public/topics/tooth_e...

Wisdom teeth come in around ages 17-21, though I have seen 16 year olds with them. The normal total number of teeth (with the wisdoms included) is 32.

Not everyone gets them pulled, but a large majority. This is because they can damage the teeth in front of them depending on how they are growing in. Some people believe that they can push the other teeth forward causing them to be crowded. If they do come in they are extremely likely to get cavities (which cost money and take time to fix) and also can get food caught around them causing infection.

Your dentist will most likely take a panoramic xray to see where your wisdom teeth are and can advise you as to what they think your course of action should be. And just so you know, having your wisdom teeth out isn%26#039;t always a horror story. I had 5 teeth (3 wisdom %26amp; 2 premolars) out with nitrous (gas) and local anesthesia (numbness) and went home and ate. I also didn%26#039;t swell or bruise, so don%26#039;t focus on all of the bad stories you will hear...

Hope that helps!

JAMRDH - a dental hygienist
Reply:not everyone gets their wisdom teeth pulled. Most do because they hurt sometimes, but when you get them pulled it will hurt alot. Godl uck
Reply:Well, I think typically people have their wisdom teeth come in around the ages of 18-22. I think you will know if it%26#039;s a wisdom tooth are not. It%26#039;s pretty obvious. It%26#039;s in the very back, and also you should be around that age range.

No, not everyone has to have their wisdom teeth pulled. You really only need to have them pulled when they are causing you problems. Problems such as alot of pain, shifting your teeth, becoming impacted, or growing in at the wrong angle.

I don%26#039;t really know of anyway that you%26#039;ll be able to keep them in if they really need to be pulled. Don%26#039;t worry, I had mine pulled, and it really wasn%26#039;t that big of a deal.
Reply:Wisdom teeth usually come in around age 18 behind your existing molars. If there is not enough room in your mouth, then those teeth get pulled. And, an adult has 32 teeth, including wisdom teeth.
Reply:I think many people have them pulled because they either aren%26#039;t growing in straight, or their mouth isn%26#039;t really big enough for them. In my case, 2 of my teeth grew in crooked and were crowding the teeth in front, and the other 2 grew in underneath the teeth in front. They all were removed. You%26#039;ll need to ask your dentist about yours.
Reply:you will know if it is or not. If it is growing in comfortably you%26#039;ll be fine. Some people%26#039;s mouths are big enough to accept the extra teeth and they live the rest of their days with four more teeth than most other people( my mother is the only example of this I know of) Some people never get them or don%26#039;t have a top or bottom set. The greatest majority of scenarios include a person having four wisdom teeth, their mouths aren%26#039;t big enough to comfortably accept them ( you will know if this is the case because they will break through the gums and grow in to a point where they will poke the gums and eventually cause pain as they poke into the flesh of the mouth repeatedly as you move your jaw.) At this point, most people have them cut out by an oral surgeon. there is usually a two to three day healing period accompanied by a regular administration of pain killers, on the other hand my recovery was much quicker and I was cheering at mypowderpuff game the next day
Reply:There are normally four wisdom teeth, and you need an OPG to find out more on whether you have wisdom teeth, or whether they are impacted, or if they are causing other problems inside your mouth. To find out why wisdom teeth should be regularly assessed, and of the benefits of prophylactic wisdom tooth removal, go to http://www.dentalimplantsaustralia.com/

Wisdom teeth =[?

ouch one of wisdom teeth is growing way on the back

and my gums are swollen and my throat hurts and my jaw i cant even bite because my check is swollen what should i do its been hurting for like 3days now my dentist just told me to keep it clean and i might need surgery because its also pushing my other teeth

it still hurts i hate this =[

Wisdom teeth =[?
I got lucky and only had 3,, they all came in but then they all got pulled... I know it hurts though ,, good luck
Reply:Yeah...mine felt like I was being smashed by a wooden base ball bat. But it will pass. If you have to have surgery thats okay. The healing time is not aweful. You%26#039;ll feel right as rain pretty soon. :)
Reply:Thought that your dentist would have done something about it...like remove it.....it is of no use and you would not miss it anyway...change your dentist or at least get a 2nd opinion....you don%26#039;t want to end up with an impacted wisdon tooth.
Reply:I still have to get all 4 of mine pulled because I had braces and they%26#039;ll push my teeth when they pop out. My only fear is surgery lol.
Reply:In my opinion, I would call a oral surgeon and make an appointment to get all of them removed. SInce one of them is bothering, chances are good that it will bother you again or another will. Where I live, most everyone my age hashad their wisdom teeth removed, it is a common procedure. Mine were all impacted, which means the grew under the gum and never broke through the skin and they actually had to cot open my gum. Having the tops ones out did not hurt, but the bottom ones did. It doesn%26#039;t take very long to heal, or for the pain to subside. Just being honest with you.
Reply:i would recommend getting the surgery because it wont move all your other teeth around...if you cant afford this try eating a lot of cold foods such as icecream or just sucking on ice. biting on things helps too (like a cloth...or you could also wet a cloth and freeze it and put it on your teeth). Use oragel to temporarily numb it. you could also go to the doctor and see if they will prescribe you painkillers for your pain and if they dont, just use motrin it works quite well. if you get a fever i would go to the doctor. normally teeth take about 4 weeks to come in and it shouldnt be severely painful all the time and you will probably notice it will hurt periodically. Make sure you stay hydrated because if you arent eating, its soo not healthy to have an empty stomach. Try getting a second opinion from another dentist if you could because it never hurts to be sure youre doing the right thing:) I%26#039;d say motrin all the way:)
