Wisdom Teeth?

I am 16 years old and one of my wisdom teeth is coming in really fast. It is in the bottom right side of my mouth and the pain is very uncomfortable. I am really scared to get all four removed, but know it is something that I must do.

The problem is... it is February now and the earliest I could possibly get them removed is June! I am worried about enduring the pain for so many months... Also, my friend scared me by saying I needed to remove them before they attached to my jaw, or something, otherwise the surgery would be seriosuly painful (or at least far more painful than it would be had the tooth not attached to the jaw).

I am seriously freaked out. I am embarrassed to say this, but I am having nightmares after seeing a commercial for a horror movie that came out not too long ago called %26quot;Awake%26quot; about a guy who could feel all the pain during an open-heart surgery.

Ridiculous to worry, I know, but I am in complete desperation for some comfort. Any advice would be appreciated!

Wisdom Teeth?
OK, stop the worry warts; it%26#039;s not going to hurt to wait until June. The teeth aren%26#039;t going to %26quot;attach to your jaw%26quot;. What happens....over a few years time, the roots, which are now forming, continue to lengthen and thus make it a little harder to get the teeth out. You are looking at late teens to early 20%26#039;s before the roots finish forming so get some sleep without nightmares. Now, you may or may not have anesthesia for the removal of the teeth but my recommendation is to go to an oral surgeon, have them knock you out and when you wake up it will all be over with. If you have pain between now and June just think of all of the little babies who are teething and what they are going through. Oral Jel and aspirin work wonders for teething teens!
Reply:Number one, you don%26#039;t necessarily need to get them removed. It depends on how they come in and how large your mouth is. That is something you have to consult with your doctor about. I know my mouth is big enough to keep mine... As far as the pain, it shouldn%26#039;t be too bad. They will put you give you most likely an entire anesthetic for the procedure. As far as having to wait until they can be removed, I would talk to your dentist. They should be able to prescribe you some good pain killers if you are in that much pain. Hope everything works out!
Reply:good luck!!!
Reply:First off, all your teeth are attached to your jaw bone. It is very common for kids your age to wait until school is out to have them removed, that is why the oral surgeons are always busiest in the summer and just before school re starts. Motrin is a good anti inflammatory and is suggested by oral surgeons for the discomfort. You do not have to be asleep to have the extractions, although it is recommended. You will be asleep about one hour but when you awake it will feel like five minutes. Ankylosis is what your friend means about the teeth being in the jaw like a cemented whale tooth. This is most common in the elderly and very rare in kids your age.

Relax just a little, most everyone goes through it!

PS. You can have conscious sedation also.
