Wisdom Teeth?

i got my wisdom teeth out on the 14th. i got all four teeth removed at the same time. and today on the 21st i got my stiches cut out. for the most part everything went well. the back of my mouth is healing pretty quickly and i can eat normally again. but my cheeks hurt. my bottom jaw is all cramped up and it hurts to smile? is this normal? did i do something wrong? how long will it take to be perfectly healed?

i had very little bruising very light. went away within 4 days.

Wisdom Teeth?
yup, you could be sore for another week.... When I was at that stage, my gums slowly bled and left nasty blood clots in the back of my mouth. These would then come loose while trying to eat...nasty stuff... This stopped about a week later. I was then fine....Good Luck..
Reply:You might want to talk to your dentist or whoever it was that performed the surgery. I had mine out and within 24 hours was out playing basketball. Granted i was spitting a bit of blood, but i had no pain. I%26#039;m not sure you should have that much pain...I think within a couple of days i was good...plus...i didn%26#039;t have to have stitches cut out...they should have used disolving ones!!
Reply:Don%26#039;t worry it%26#039;s normal. It takes a long time for your mouth to heal. The cramping and soreness may take up to a month to fade away depending on how senstive you are. Try advil or excedrin for the pain.
Reply:You%26#039;re fine, and those after-effects are perfectly normal. Keep in mind that these guys essentially cut deep into your gums and ripped out four massive teeth. You%26#039;re going to feel that for a little while. =P

Be glad that yours went over better than mine. Not only did my cheeks get all poofy, but (from what my dentist explained to me) the erosion caused by my teeth sliding into place to fill in the gaps of where my wisdom teeth had been caused massive irritation in my gums, which caused large amounts of puss to be produced. That puss filled the holes where my wisdom teeth used to be, and, needless to say, puss tastes HORRIBLE. That lasted for at least two months. It was miserable.

Here%26#039;s hoping your recovery is quick and puss-free.
Reply:Did the oral surgeon tell you anything? I had my wisdom teeth removed almost a year ago. I had two dry sockets (both on the bottom). He had put in dissolvable stitches because he was located out of town. I think the pain you%26#039;re experiencing is normal but you should definitely check with whoever did your surgery. I was on pain meds for awhile then they just packed my %26quot;teeth%26quot; (dry sockets). If you need any further advice feel free to contact me.
Reply:I got 4 out a little over a week and a half ago. I had swelling and light bruising. Two impacted, 2 fully in. The soreness is still there. On the left side where they had to stitch up. Not only at the hole but the other teeth next to it is sore too. My doc said it can take up to 2 weeks and to take the pain killers. The holes will fully heal in about 2 months. And to rinse w/warm salt water after every meal. Sounds like you%26#039;re healing okay. Or pop in for a check-up at the doc. It takes less than 5 mins. Good luck! =)
Reply:this is fine dont worry it can take up to like a month or more for those pains in your jaw to go away it did for me
Reply:See a dentist!

Wisdom teeth are third molars that usually appear between the ages of 18 and 20 (although they may appear when older, younger, or fail to appear at all). They are called %26quot;wisdom teeth%26quot; because they appear so late—much later than the other teeth, at an age where people are supposedly wiser than as a child, when the other teeth erupt. Often they need to be removed when they impact against other teeth—colloquially known as %26quot;coming in sideways.%26quot;

Wisdom teeth are often impacted, meaning they are covered by soft tissue (gums), hard tissue (bone) or both. Just as with any extraction, once teeth are removed, the body starts the process of healing the extraction site, via inflammation (sending cells, nutrients and proteins to the site of the wound) and wound healing (organizing all those things into a matrix and eventually filling in the socket). Unfortunately, inflammation hurts, and that%26#039;s why there%26#039;s ibuprofen- over the counter is fine, but usually your dentist will give you something stronger (by prescription).

If the teeth are in your mouth (erupted), the surgical procedure will go more smoothly (most of the time), than if they are impacted, in which case more gum tissue has to be pushed around, and possibly some bone removed to get the teeth out. One last thing about 3rd molars- they are like the wild cards of molars. They can tilt all different ways, and have roots that twist in different directions. Bottom line- the more hard and soft tissue (bone and gums) that have to be disturbed to remove the tooth, the more complicated the surgery, the more healing there is, and the more pain. Make sure you ask your dentist for pain meds that are appropriate for the level of impaction that the wisdom teeth had.

Reply:It is normal. Some people heal sooner than others. Your jaw was manipulated in so many ways it isn%26#039;t used to moving. You could possibly be sore for some time. I had mine out the 11th and mine still feels bruised. My age (37) has something to do with my slow healing as well as the jaw manipulation. The pain will eventually go away.
