Wisdom teeth?

My wisdom teeth have been coming in now for a while. And they just all of a sudden started to hurt really bad. I%26#039;m thinking that maybe they are really breaking through the skin. The skin around the tooth is a pinkish white and I know that when like a baby is teething, there gums turn like a pinkish white... I know they are not infected, and I know I need to get them out. But . I guess I was just wondering if they are hurting so bad because they are coming in more so, and how I can get the pain to stop %26#039;till I can afford to get them taken out.... OH and how much do you think it is to be put out for the surgery?

Thanks

Wisdom teeth?
My wisdom teeth hurt quite a bit when they were coming in. They would hurt for about 2-3 days at a time every couple months. That lasted for about a year until they fully grew in, or enough to at least break the surface.

My problem was that my teeth were too far back and the gum still covered half the tooth even after it grew in. This caused food to get stuck under the gum and gave me a raging infection in my tooth that caused me to start running fevers and be out from work for a week. I was scared to death of getting the teeth pulled, but having them pulled was not near as bad as the pain from the multiple infections I kept getting with them in.

The cost really depends on whether you have dental insurance and whether you want to be knocked out for the procedure. My entire procedure was $525, but I had insurance and a good chunk of the cost for having my teeth pulled was the cost of the anesthesia since I was too chicken to be awake for it. I think that without insurance it would have been $1600. It also depends on whether the teeth are straight, or partially embedded in the bone. Or, like mine have crooked roots and require an actual surgeon.

After the procedure, the pain was not too horrible, jus a dull ache for about a wake. Living off of stove top stuffing, jello and othert soft items.
Reply:the surgery is pretty expensive..mine was about 3,000 buck. But also 2 of mine were impacted meaning that they hadnt come out of the gums. I think thats why my surgery was so expensive. It sounds to me as if your teeth are starting to erupt and that you might need to have them taken out. Do you have insurance? because usually most of the surgery is covered by that. You need to see a dentist and have xrays to determine if you need surgery though.
Reply:my surgery was just under 3,000 dollars 20 years ago.

ambesol will help with temporary numbing of pain.

kava is a natural novacain. And motrin also helps.
Reply:The same thing happened to me. Right now I have one wisdom tooth fully in and it took about 2 and a half months. It was painful for a while but once all the meat on your tooth moves back you won%26#039;t feel the pain anymore. I wouldn%26#039;t recommend this because I don%26#039;t know how wise it is, but I%26#039;ve found that pushing a little at the gum from the area nearest the molar in front of it opens the gum for the tooth to come out. I%26#039;ve done this to my second wisdom tooth and I haven%26#039;t had much pain.
Reply:Usually pain killers Motrin/Tylenol can help till you get them removed.

Do you have health insurance? As far as surgery costs, look online for studies about pain and wisdom teeth removal. I had a friend who got his taken out at NIH for a study like that and the treatment/surgery was free. But he didn%26#039;t get to keep his teeth.

You could call dentist office to ask about prices. And unless you want to be awake for the procedure ask about anesthesia too.
Reply:A couple of years ago I had one that was doing the same as what you described. An oral surgeon wanted to knock me out, and take it out. Then he said the price was about $450. I went to a regular dentist who gave me a local and pulled it out. He charged me $65. I guess it%26#039;s up to you and who you choose to see.
Reply:Ok, try this: I went to this website for Care Credit, they list Dr%26#039;s and Dentists (even vet%26#039;s) who use this method of payment, its like a credit card for health care only. Easy payments too. Try it out....dont neglet your teeth they will only get worse!!!
Reply:That happened to me...It%26#039;ll go away, my jaw even got tight for a couple of days but that%26#039;s only cause it was breaking through. They take a long time to come out also, the bottoms ones started coming out when I turned 17, it%26#039;s been over a year and they aren%26#039;t done coming out yet. The top ones have barely started the process. I thought I had to take mine out also but my grandma, who I trust more than some money-hungry dentists, told me that it was natural for it to hurt while it%26#039;s breaking through the skin...Imagine how babies must feel.
Reply:My son just had a wisdom tooth extracted by our dentist. The cost before insurance was around $180. Ten years ago, I had to travel out of town to have three wisdom teeth cut out and I was put to sleep. It was about $500 back then. See if your regular dentist can take them out.
